Two returning players announced

Eau Claire, Wis. — March 27, 2012 — Eau Claire Express field manager Dale Varsho has announced the verbal commitment of two players returning to the Express.

Ty Forney will be back to anchor the infield for the third straight season. He transferred to UTPB this year after playing at New Mexico State last year. Forney is not playing this spring due to NCAA transfer rules that require him to sit out a season.

Forney was named the team MVP last summer after hitting .338, with 12 doubles and five home runs. He was the recipient of the Rawlings "Big Stick Award" awarded to the top hitter at each position and was also a mid-season and post-season All-Star.

Another returning player for the Express is hometown catcher Will Fadness. Fadness spent last summer with the Eau Claire Cavaliers, after playing a full season for the Express in 2010. This will be his third summer with the Express after he signed on in the later part of 2009.

This spring Fadness is playing at UW-Milwaukee after playing two seasons at South Mountain Community College in Arizona. He leads the Panthers with a .294 batting average thus far and has appeared in 20 games. He has seven doubles and six RBIs and a .397 slugging percentage.

The Express open up the 2012 season May 30, at home against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. Continue to watch for roster announcements through the spring leading all the way up to opening day.

The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America.
